What an exciting year 2015 was for us and 2016 is starting off on a good note. In January 2015 we were awarded with a Good Food Award for our Kimchi. Then starting off 2016 we were awarded another Good Food Award for our Dill Pickles. The Good Food Awards were created through a collaboration of food producers, farmers, food journalists and independent grocers organized by the Seedling Projects. These national awards recognize food entrepreneurs that produce delicious food that is respectful of the environment. So we are honored to have been recipients in 2014 (Dill Kraut ‘n Pickles), 2015 and 2016.
Also we were interviewed for an article that appeared in the 2016 Jan/Feb issue of the Food Network Magazine. The article was titled “Making It” and focused on couples quitting their jobs and starting food businesses together.
We have been in our new commercial production facility for almost 2 years and we love the amount of space. The increased space has allowed us to grow in size. We have hired several people to work part time in the kitchen and on the farm. We continue to increase production and would like to have our products in several new retail locations this year. The big project for the latter part of 2015 and into 2016 has been the building of our passive solar seed starting greenhouse. We finally realized piecing together various places to start seeds was not efficient. We found a local builder interested in building a passive solar greenhouse using ideas from other farms and his own interpretation of passive solar design. This Spring we will be starting all our transplants here. Come see the greenhouse on the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association’s Piedmont Farm Tour.
Also this year we will be working with The Splinter Group to create an online store for our products. This will make it easier to ship to all of you that have been requesting our products in different parts of the country.
